2010 Texas vs the Nation Day 2 Practice Report - The Pit
by Cecil Lammey on 02/03/10The best part of every All-Star Game practice is watching the O-Line versus the D-Line in the Pit. There have been some heated battles down here in El Paso, so let’s see who has been a stand out player in Pit Notes:
Texas - Monday Notes
Ramone Harewood(OL - Morehouse) stuffed Emmanuel Stephens.
Chris Campbell(OL - E. Illinois) was able to handle Adrian Davis when he tried both inside and outside moves.
Nick Howell(OL - USC) stops Sean Lissemore on a power move.
Eric Cook(OL - New Mexico) stuffs Charles Alexander on a swim move.
Nic Richmond(OL - TCU) handles Brandon Sharpe on both speed and power moves.
Marlon Winn(OL - Texas Tech) lost his footing when facing Junior Galette. Pancaked Lorenzo Washington.
Andrew Lewis(OL - Oklahoma State) threw Emmanuel Stephens to the ground after he tried a spin move back to the inside.
Casey Knips(OL - South Dakota State) has a good punch to keep defenders at bay.
Brandon Sharpe(DL - Texas Tech) knows how to work the edge.
Larry Hart(DL - Central Arkansas) pushes Ramon Harewood back into the quarterback, and showed a lot of power in his lower body.
Lorenzo Washington(DL - Alabama) uses a nice rip move to gain leverage.
Emmanuel Stephens(DL - Mississippi) has good speed off the edge, and quick around the corner. Relentless in his pursuit of the quarterback.
Charles Alexander(DL - LSU) has an array of moves and is good at handfighting against offensive linemen. He showed good power when going after Andrew Lewis.
Texas - Tuesday Notes
Chris Campbell(OL - E. Illinois) gets good pop on Adrian Davis, who was late off the snap. Campbell had a good base, and moved his feet well. Plus, he had a powerful punch.
Nick Howell(OL - USC) stones Jimmy Saddler-McQueen who tried to use a rip move off the snap.
Michael Aguayo(OL - UTEP) stopped Lorenzo Washington cold on an underneath move.
Ramon Harewood(OL - Morehouse) controls Sean Lissemore all the way, but the big man did get some push.
Nic Richmond(OL - TCU) shows a good anchor against speed or power moves.
Junior Galette(DL - Stillman) has good speed around the corner against Casey Knips. He sped around Knips for a second time which had the coaches yelling, “Oh Yeah! Speed Kills!”
Emmanuel Stephens(DL - Mississippi) punched off Marlon Winn, who jumped offsides to begin with.
Jimmy Saddler-McQueen(DL - Texas A&M Kingsville) had good push inside, but Ramone Harewood redirected him. He did a good job of hand fighting to get around Andrew Lewis.
Lorenzo Washington(DL - Alabama) knocks Andrew Lewis over backwards and draws “oohs” from his teammates.
Larry Hart(DL - Central Arkansas) generated so much power that he made Marlon Winn do the splits.
Charles Alexander(DL - LSU) tossed Kevin Matthews aside like a rag doll. Used a quick swim move to get around Eric Cook.
Nation - Monday Notes
Jeraill McCuller(OL - NC State) pushes around Alex Daniels. Just lays on George Johnson.
Dennis Landolt(OL - Penn State) flat out puts Tommie Duhart on the ground.
Will Barker(OL - Virginia) stones Tommie Duhart.
Joe Hawley(OL - UNLV) gets head up quickly. He also absorbs a lot of punishment but stands his ground against power moves.
Vladmir Richard(OL - Tennessee) stuns Travis Ivey with a punch and stops him cold.
Jared Veldheer(OL - Hillsdale) doesn’t overcommit and get off balance. He does a good job of resetting his hands.
Derek Hardman(OL - Eastern Kentucky) keeps Brandon Gilbeaux at bay.
Alex Daniels(DL - Cincinnati) burns around the edge.
Andre Neblett(DL - Temple) gets good push.
E.J. Wilson(DL - North Carolina) uses power to get after the quarterback. He beats Dennis Landolt with a quick start off the snap.
Nation - Tuesday Notes
Will Barker(OL - Virginia) stopped Alex Daniels twice in a row, both were speed moves.
Jared Veldheer(OL - Hillsdale) controls Arthur Moats from first contact all the way past the quarterback.
Tyler Eastman(OL - Maine) stones Alex Daniels each time he faced him.
Derek Hardman(OL - Eastern Kentucky) is good at redirecting guys outside.
Joe Hawley(OL - UNLV) was getting beat regularly, and became so frustrated he gave up after getting beat with a quick move. The coaches talked to him and he returned to the drill, but fared no better.
Eddie Adamski(OL - Northern Illinois) basically sat down on Andre Neblett. The next play he redirected Neblett anywhere he wanted him to go.
Adrian Tracy(DL - William & Mary) has a very good swim move. He can also spin to get pressure from the inside.
Travis Ivey(DL - Maryland) power swipes his way past Joe Hawley. He followed that up by easily spinning around Hawley. he beat Derek Hardman because the big O-Lineman didn’t bend at the knees.
Andre Neblett(DL - Temple) beats Dennis Landolt with an inside move. Later he was able to swim inside Joe Hawley.
E.J. Wilson(DL - North Carolina) powers through Jerail McCuller.
Brandon Gilbeaux(DL - Syracuse) spins and tears his way through Derek Hardman. He then beat Dennis Landolt with power.
Tommie Duhart(DL - Pittsburgh) was relentless going after Will Barker, who was playing out of position as he tried out at Guard. He later threw Barker to the ground.
George Johnson(DL - Rutgers) gets inside punch on Jared Veldheer. Next play he pushes on Veldheer and comments “I’ll push your ass all the way back to the quarterback!” He did a good job of hand fighting with Tyler Eastman, and after being held by him Johnson commented “You know you was beat!” Johnson showed good stutter steps and power moves when going against the best linemen here - Jared Veldheer.
