Ok, well maybe not, but at least we think alike. The Steelers had both Burnett and Summers into the South Side Facility, so they were most definitely on their radar.
Frank the Tank gives the Steelers a real short yardage running back who can also be a lead blocker on running plays and catch passes out of the backfield. Basically Carey Davis, but physical and powerful.
Joe Burnett might need safety help over the top against the speedier pro wide receivers, but he’s instinctive and physical, and he’s an outstanding kick and punt returner.
Why are South Carolina kids falling so far? Meredith looks very promising on the right side of the line, and he can play anywhere:
Bomar was the only Senior Bowl QB who was willing to take chances in practice and fire the ball downfield. Everyone else seemed more scared of making a turnover than showing their skills, but Bomar threw some eye-popping darts. His easy motion delivers a deceptively fast pass, and he can make all the throws.
Bomar was knocked out of OU by an off-campus job scandal, and his only game against Texas left him a disheveled mess. These are causes for concern. But neither are total red flags, and in the late rounds, you won’t find many QBs with his tools. Nice developmental pick.
Some 5th rounders of note:
Jason Phillips of TCU goes to Baltimore. He’s the ultimate try-hard dude who might not be explosive but will immediately contribute on special teams.
Kenny McKinley of South Carolina goes to Denver, and he could become the #3 or #4 WR right away. He’s sudden in his routes, his hands are consistent, and he runs well after the catch. He fell as part of what seems to be a South Carolina panic as all their guys are plummeting for reasons beyond us.
Jarett Dillard rocks the casbah.
Nic Harris played safety at OU but he might project as more of a LB in the pros. He looks very quick and sharp when he breaks on the ball.
James Casey is an athletic freak of a TE who has franchise potential at the position. Jarett Dillard already plays wideout like a veteran, and his ability to change speeds and sell route fakes will get him open in the NFL. Where is the love for these future starters?
The Bears gutted their draft to get Jay Cutler, and we still like their haul from this draft more than most of the teams that had multiple picks on the first day. Knox is going to at least be a great slot receiver with his hands and adjustments to errant passes. With his speed, he’ll also run under those deep balls from Cutler.
Just got announced on the floor here at Radio City. Will this pave the way for Sheldon Brown to follow Lito Sheppard out of town?
